Madagascar Ice

We went on a very fun outing with the boys today. It was a bit of a splurge for us, but it was our one "Christmas" treat since we stayed in town for the holidays. The Gaylord National Hotel on the Potomac has had an ice show the last couple years and this year's theme was the Madagascar movie. One of Kellan's favorite movies since it has a bunch of zoo animals in it. It was a gorgeous sunny day out, so not very wintry.

After we got through the line and watched the preview show of the making of all the ice sculptures, we had to put on our large blue coats to keep us warm in the 5 degree exhibit. Henry's coat was a little on the large size, but it was the smallest one they had. He was a very good sport about it and happily kept it on.

Amazing to see how detailed all the ice sculptures were and how colorful.

They even had an ice slide, 4 of them. Kellan went down once with Daddy and then Mommy got a turn with him too. Very cold!!

Kellan imitating Gloria the hippo. Henry likes Melman the giraffe.

The last room had a beautiful nativity scene display with lights and music. It took us a good 45 minutes to go through and by then we were all really starting to feel the effects of 5 degrees on our toes and fingers!

They had another tent set up with food, souvenirs, a train ride, ice skating and pictures with the Madagascar Penguins, which Kellan was happy to go see. Henry liked them from a distance.

Henry was happy to take a train ride along with Daddy and Kellan. We left to go find lunch at one of the many restaurants outside the hotel. The boys were then fast asleep on the way home. A very fun day had by all!

Oh wow! This was the first year I heard about this and I wanted to take the kids, but we did determine that it was a "splurge" (and our clueless kids don't know Madagascar) so thought maybe next year. It looks SO cool! Glad you guys had such a good time!!
